The DVD revolution is set to change forever the way we enjoy home cinema, and Alice is fully committed to extending into this digital realm. However, confusion with some members regarding 'Zones' has become apparent.
The Planet has been broken down into six separate territories (Zones) by Hollywood Studios in order to maintain control over the international release dates and strategies for their cinema product.
New Zealand has been designated Zone 4, (as has Australia and South America), and thus most DVDs offered for rental are Zone 4. However an increasing volume of Zone 1 (North America) and Zone 2 (Europe, Japan and South Africa) are finding their way onto the New Zealand market and are available for rental or sale at Alice.
To play these DVDs members require a Multi-Zone DVD player, or modification (by a technician) to their Zone 4 DVD player.
Zone 1 discs will also require a television monitor compatible with the NTSC (North American) broadcast system.
If you are unsure if your DVD player has been modified, or is a Multi-Zone player, instore members may rent our demo DVD disc free of charge, (Online Members will have to know prior to renting Zones 1 or 2) to determine if you have the equipment to play these DVDs and enjoy the cinematic freedom this new global technology brings.
